- Choose the shape, diameter and length of the stent to be placed.
- Note: make sure to have an application system with the same diameter on hands as the stent selected (8.5 Fr or 10 Fr).
- Remove the stent with its positioning sleeve and the application system out of their packaging.
- Insert the positioning sleeve from the distal end of the guiding catheter all the way up the proximal Y connector.
- Place the stent from its proximal extremity (NOT tapered side) over the guiding catheter until it reaches the distal extremity of the pusher.
- Insert the assembled stent and application system over the guide wire by inserting the guide wire inside the distal end of the guiding catheter until the tapered distal extremity stent reach the entrance of the biopsy channel.
- Push the positioning sleeve forward over the proximal flap to lower it in order to protect it while inserting the stent and the rest of the device inside the biopsy channel.
- Note the positioning sleeve will stay out of the biopsy channel.
- Advance the guiding catheter until the radiopaque ring passes the obstructed area.
- Once the guiding catheter is in the desired place, unscrew the luer-lock connection of the Y-connector to release the pusher from the guiding catheter.
- Slowly advance the pusher until it reaches the proximal extremity of the stent.
- To hold the guide wire in place with the guiding catheter, use the sealing cap on the Y-connector. Injection of contrast is possible via the guiding catheter Y-connector lateral connection. Do this with the sealing cap close.
- To place the stent into its final position, hold the guiding catheter with one hand while slowly advancing the pusher.
- Keep guiding catheters position while placing the stent
- Once the stent is placed, pull the guiding catheter and the guide wire back into the biopsy channel while keeping the pusher in its position. After the complete removal of those devices, the stent will regain its original shape.
- Finally, remove the pusher, the guiding catheter and the guide wire out of the scope.
For stent removal, please proceed as follows:
- As the stent has been placed in the desired location with the proximal extremity appearing into the digestive system cavity, it can be removed by gently pulling it with a foreign body retriever forceps or a snare or even a basket.
- Once the stent has been pulled out, remove it from the patient along with the scope and the removing device used.
