Mogelijke complicaties geassocieerd met de gastro-intestinale endoscopie omvatten en zijn niet beperkt tot perforaties, koorts, aspiraties, bloedingen, infecties, hypotensie, allergische reacties op medicijnen, hartritmestoornissen of -stilstand, ademhalingsdepressie of -stilstand. Bovendien omvatten complicaties die kunnen optreden bij het aanleggen van een slokdarmband onder meer het losraken van de band, beklemmend gevoel op de borst, retrosternale pijn, dysfagie of odynofagie, en post-EVL-ulcus met of zonder bloeding, toename van portale hypertensieve gastropathie, bacteriëmie, misselijkheid, larynx-, retrosternale pijn, snijwonden, vorming van stricturen, slokdarmperforatie, obstructies, herhaling van varices en herbloedingen.
Possible complications associated with the gastrointestinal endoscopy include and not limited to perforations, fever, aspirations, haemorrhage, infections, hypo-tension, allergic reactions to medication, cardiac arrhythmia or arrest, respiratory depression or arrest. Furthermore, complications that may occur with oesophageal banding include and not limited to band dislodgment, chest tightness, retrosternal pain, dysphagia or odynophagia, and post-EVL ulcer with or without bleeding, increase of portal hypertensive gastropathy, bacteremia, nausea, laryngeal, retrosternal pain, laceration, stricture formation, oesophageal perforation, obstructions, variceal recurrence and rebleeding.
